Where to view the mining permit application/Status of the application

Although the mining permit application is long and appears daunting, it is actually quite interesting to read. Modules include information on Geology, Hydrology, Erosion and Sedimentation, Wetlands, Streams, Operations, Pollution Control, Reclamation, and more.

The maps are especially helpful and show the operations, depths of mining, location of the washing plant and sedimentation ponds, the proposed 20 acre lake, where the Esker will be mined, and the mitigation of the small 1.8 acre wetland into the Esker’s former site. Cross sections are also shown as well as surrounding properties.

Reviewing the permit application and maps can be especially useful if you would like a clearer vision of the proposed project. It may also help in formulating a letter of concern to DEP. For instance, if you know of streams, springs, flora, fauna, or other features that may not appear in the application, informing DEP of this may help in their assessment. You may also see other omissions or inaccuracies. DEP welcomes and encourages public participation in the permit application process and all of your comments are considered.

Status of the application

DEP sent a first review letter of the permit application to Glacial Sand and Gravel with a list of 53 needed additions and corrections. These corrections were to be submitted by January 23, 2008.

Glacial Sand and Gravel requested and was granted an extension. The additions and corrections are now due on February 23, 2008.
